Café Scientifique Dubai and the British Council are thrilled to present Aubrey de Grey, British author, biomedical gerontologist, and Chief Science Officer of the SENS Research Foundation, on March 23 at the Urban Bistro in Media City.

“We are excited to have Aubrey de Grey as our guest speaker at our next Café Scientifique Dubai event,” says Rohan Roberts, Co-Founder of Café Scientifique Dubai. “We’re going to get a lot of insight into regenerative medicine. There will be fascinating discussions about slowing down or even preventing the aging process.”

Co-founder, Raya Bidshahri, adds, “De Grey will shine some light on his research, which focuses on the development of what he calls “Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence” (SENS), a collection of proposed techniques to extend human life span.”

Aubrey de Grey is author of The Mitochondrial Free Radical Theory of Aging and co-author of Ending Aging. He is an international adjunct professor of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, a fellow of the Gerontological Society of America, the American Aging Association, and the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies. His TED talk has over 2.9 million views.

Marc Jessel, Director British Council said “Our work in the UAE has been building friendly knowledge and understanding through the exchange of knowledge and ideas for the past 47 years and science is a big part of this story. We hope these talks help to promote the role of science communication in inspiring the next generation of scientists. It’s important for young men and women to have the opportunity to hear from scientists like Aubrey de Grey who have turned their passion for science into a positive change for humanity or the planet.”

“We are big fans of intelligent optimism here at Café Scientifique Dubai. De Grey’s life mission is ultimately a message of intelligent optimism,” says Lara Matossian, Founder and CEO of SciFest Dubai, of which Café Scientifique Dubai is an initiative, “I am delighted that people will have the opportunity to meet de Grey and interact with him.”

The British Council’s Café Scientifique aims to provide an informal discussion forum, where people can gather together to learn about the latest global topics in science and innovation. You don’t have to be a scientist or science student to take part, as Café Scientifique is about the science of life and how it shapes our world. The informal, friendly environment encourages open and interesting debate, where you can offer your opinions, ask questions or just listen.

Everyone’s welcome and Café Scientifique Dubai positively welcomes questions which begin with “This might be a dumb question, but…” These questions are invariably not dumb and are often rather insightful.

This Café Scientifique Dubai event takes place on Wednesday 23rd March 2016 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm at the Urban Bistro in Media City. Entry is free and prior registration is required. Please register here.
