HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, declared 2016 as the Year of Reading. The significance of this theme is one that educators not only understand, but also welcome wholeheartedly, as it speaks to the fundamentals of literacy, which is required across the various subject areas. It also helps to embed a culture of reading for pleasure in society. It is hoped that reading will no longer be seen as a chore, but as a way to enlighten and broaden the mind and feed the soul.

For any reading programme initiated by the government or any other party to be successful, it needs the full support of teachers, parents and students. Instilling a love for reading in students is easier said than done. We have consulted with some of the best in the field, to bring you an issue filled with vital tips and strategies to transform your literacy and reading lessons.
