STEM PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR K-12 TEACHERS

STEM Revolution believes that through this training, teachers will be equipped with tools and strategies to make the STEM shift.  Designed around the 4 Essential STEM Shift Elements, this training will provide teachers with the knowledge and skills needed to begin shifting their teaching practices while engaging learners.

Workshop 1.1: Getting Started with STEM and Growth Mindset

This workshop covers the importance of STEM education and provides strategies to help students achieve success in the 21st Century.

Learning Objectives

  • Define STEM in the classroom to overcome common concerns
  • Apply STEM into any classroom
  • Connect STEM to 21st and 22nd Century Skills
  • Explore STEM Resources for further learning

Workshop 1.2: Collaborative Teaching Strategies

Collaborative learning is an instructional method in which teachers and/or students team together on an assignment

Learning Objectives

  • To explore various instructional approaches to collaborative learning
  • To understand team-based learning as an approach to collaborating learning
  • To practice integrating collaborative learning into a course in a way that aligns with student learning objectives and intended outcomes

Workshop 1.3: Introduction to Design Thinking

Design Thinking is a crucial skill required to be successful in the 21st Century.  Attendees will learn this process and be able to apply it to any lesson.

Learning Objectives

  • Develop an understanding of Design Thinking in the Classroom
  • Experience design thinking “Quick Wins” to be applied in the classroom
  • Complete a full Design Challenge with a focus on applying the process to the classroom
  • Create a Design Thinking STEM unit
