The STEM MENA Awards 2023 took place at the Copthorne Lakeview Hotel, Dubai Investment Park, On October 28, 2023. The event brought together teachers, students, and parents from the GCC and other regions to celebrate the achievements of STEM educators and students. The ceremony was keynoted by Bruce J. Ellsworth, the Commercial and Digital Attaché at the U.S. Consulate General in Dubai, emphasising the awards’ mission to acknowledge outstanding contributions to STEM education in the MENA region.

Awards were given in various categories, with each one focusing on a different aspect of STEM education:

The Explorelearning Gizmos Awards recognised excellence in interactive simulation for learning.
The STEM Innovation in the Classroom award went to educators with creative teaching methods.
The Outstanding STEM Club award showcased exceptional extracurricular programs in STEM.
The STEM Teacher of the Year award appreciates an individual educator’s impact on students.

The winners were selected by an expert panel of judges consisting of Suzanne Saraya, Catherine O’Farrell, Al Kingsley, and Dr. Craig Gabler. The panel’s expertise ensured a fair evaluation process, supported by sponsors Teach Middle East, Explorelearning,, and gifts from CASIO Middle East and Africa.

The Best Gizmos STEM Team Project was awarded to Pristine Private School Dubai, with Delhi Private School Sharjah taking the prize for the Middle Years category and Dubai National School Al Twar for the High School category. JSS Private School Dubai won the Best STEM Lesson, and Emirates National School Mohammed Bin Zayed Campus was recognised as the top school using Gizmos.

Raffles World Academy was named STEM Club of the Year, while Smita Dhanke from Mayoor Private School Abu Dhabi received the STEM Innovation in the Classroom award. Nisha Remesh from Our Own English High School Sharjah Boys’ was honoured as the STEM Teacher of the Year.

The event concluded with a note that nominations for the STEM MENA Awards 2024 will open in January.
