Royal visit also marks GEMS Wellington schools’ 10 year anniversary
His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent officially inaugurated GEMS Wellington Academy – Al Khail, in a formal ceremony today with Founding families, students, parents and teachers of the school, as well as Managing Director and Board Member of GEMS Education Dino Varkey, and other Senior Leaders from GEMS.
After a ribbon cutting and plaque unveiling Prince Michael toured the school, and visited a class of excited Foundation Stage 2 students.
As Patron of GEMS Wellington International School, Prince Michael has seen the number of GEMS Wellington Schools in the UAE and abroad grow. Today he visited GEMS Wellington Academy- Silicon Oasis and GEMS Wellington School – Al Khail for the first time.
“I am delighted to be able to visit and inaugurate GEMS Wellington Academy – Al Khail. It is amazing to see that there are now four GEMS Wellington Schools in the UAE and one in Qatar. Each student I have met today is happy and confident, which is a testament to the education they are receiving at these schools,” said Prince Michael.
GEMS Wellington Academy – Al Khail was established to provide rich and relevant, learning opportunities. The school inspires future leaders by celebrating the diversity of cultures, backgrounds, abilities and skills of students from over 65 nationalities. The curriculum shares the GEMS core values of bringing a breadth of vision to the educational programme and extracurricular activities offered at the school.

Prince Michael also visited GEMS Wellington International School, where he planted a tree in celebration of the school’s 10 year anniversary. Having laid one of the first bricks for this school, he welcomes the reputation of distinction that it has. “I am proud of the outstanding achievements that the students and staff of GEMS Wellington International School have obtained. I look forward to hearing of even more success in the coming years,” he said.
