H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, led other high-level government officials in the inauguration of the Gulf Education and Training Exhibition (GETEX) at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre today. The opening ceremony was also attended by numerous university heads, school principals and hundreds of visitors and high school students. Taking place until April 17, 2015, this year’s three-day exhibition is expected to attract over 35,000 visitors.
GETEX addresses the needs of incoming university students as well as mature learners seeking to enroll in post-graduate and training programs to boost their careers. Over 2,500 academic, training and vocational programs from leading local, regional and global education providers are being showcased at GETEX. University admission teams are at hand to answer student queries, process registrations and firm up student admissions. In addition, career guidance counsellors are available to assist individuals looking for direction on choosing education programmes that would lead them to a career path suitable to their talents and skills.
Held under the patronage of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, GETEX comes at a time when the GCC’s dynamic education sector is expected to witness exponential growth in the coming years thanks to the region’s booming population and economic prosperity. Industry reports predict that the number of private school students in the GCC will triple in the next seven years.
H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan said: “Hosting an educational event with this level of professionalism and excellence reaffirms the UAE’s position as a global leading education hub. This is the result of the unlimited support given by the wise leadership of the UAE as we focus on developing the education sector as a key pillar for building a new generation who is qualified to drive the comprehensive development of the nation.”
His Highness added: “During the past few years the UAE has emerged as a major destination for education tourism in the world. The UAE has a high reputation for its safety, security, social stability, economic progress and modern infrastructure. The show represents a continuation of efforts to consolidate the presence of the country on the educational world map. This event is an important strategic platform, to enable students access to a diversified portfolio of educational options provided by universities and academic institutions that are considered to be among the most important at regional and international levels”.
Anselm Godinho, Managing Director, International Conferences and Exhibitions (IC&E), organizer of GETEX, said: “GETEX Dubai 2015 has attracted more than 350 education providers from 38 countries. Apart from serving the region’s student communities, the event will empower school faculty and career guidance counsellors to directly communicate with their target audiences and exchange essential information with them. New trends in the education sector will also be featured in the exhibition, enabling school decision makers to re-visit their strategic academic and non-academic partnerships and explore avenues that can help shape a student’s overall learning experience. Guidance counsellors, in particular, will gain information about diverse study options in the market that will allow them to assist students better.”
Since its establishment in 1988, GETEX has been the region’s leading student oriented event, showcasing the best educational and training programs for UAE learners. The 27th edition will highlight new features, trends, disciplines and learning methodologies in the regional and global education markets.
