Dubai Cares, part of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, joins citizens and residents of the United Arab Emirates in celebrating the nation’s 45th National Day, once again reaffirming its commitment to the nation’s rulers and leadership, their collective vision for the future and the pride with which they look back on past achievements.
Since its very inception, Dubai Cares has been working in line with the country and its leadership’s vision by providing children around the world with access to quality education regardless of their gender, race, creed, religion or background. This approach to development and humanitarian work has helped equip children in developing countries with the right tools to overcome the various challenges that impede their progress as well as support developing nations in their fight against poverty.
On this occasion, Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer, Dubai Cares commented: “At just 45-years of age, this country is still extremely young. Yet the achievements our leaders have guided us through in such a short time have been innumerable and have made the UAE a major player on the international scene. It is nothing short of remarkable to see how far we have come in so little time, yet it should surprise no one when we consider the far-sighted leadership of our founding father, the late His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. His wisdom and vision have continued unabated through H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; as well as the Supreme Council Members – Their Highnesses, Rulers of the other Emirates.”
Al Gurg continued: “Our President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has overseen a period of unprecedented economic growth, with the UAE being recognized globally as a safe and prosperous haven for millions of people. Yet even this achievement has been matched by the generous spirit of giving displayed by the Emirati people, who welcome visitors with open arms and extend a helping hand to those in need. It is because of this generosity that Dubai Cares has been able to help millions of children who have suffered or are still suffering from wars, catastrophes and crises.”
Over the past 9 years, Dubai Cares has successfully launched education programs reaching over 16 million beneficiaries in 45 developing countries. Through programs that are based on, or contribute to the evidence base, Dubai Cares drills down to the essence of the issue, taking the lead in dealing with lesser known obstacles to education such as lack of gender-sensitive sanitation facilities or adequate student nutrition or health. As a result, the UAE-based global organization has managed to increase the level of enrollment in schools, reduced dropout rates, improved the quality of education, assured gender equality across all programs and contributed to the global body of evidence-based best practices.
“While the country rightly celebrates its National Day with immense pride, it is important that we continue to look to the future, explore further avenues with which we can help each other and seek to help as many people in need as we possibly can. To help individuals better themselves leads, in turn, to stronger communities. This makes for happier, healthier people, who contribute to their nation’s stability. The positive knock-on effect from this makes entire nations more prosperous and the world a safer place for everyone. We should all be extremely proud of the UAE’s contribution to the rest of the world. It is a true testament to the unimpeachable vision and wisdom of our leaders,” concluded Al Gurg.
