Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) is organising the Tanmia Professional Development week from January 3rd to January 7th, 2016. ADEC has invited all teachers from across public schools in the Emirate, to attend the professional development training. Tanmia aims to develop teachers’ comprehensive and sustainable educational approach, which contributes to enhancing their skills and raise students’ academic performance to achieve success through developing training plans to reach their career goals.

Schools have provided ADEC PD Division with the training plans that they have developed earlier. School administrations will monitor training sessions in schools and contribute to the implementation of the activity sessions.

H.E. Mr. Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, ADEC’s School Operations Executive Director, said that the PD programs and activities are being offered to school-based staff to facilitate practical hands-on activities, provide them with various pedagogies that shall enhance their skills & proficiency to foster classroom application of learning. He added that the PD Week is a collaborative work product across ADEC and was developed by the academic expertise, academic quality improvement officers (AQIO) and curriculum experts.

Al-Dhaheri emphasized that PD programs & initiatives come in line with ADEC strategies aiming to develop a quality education system that equips learners with the skills & knowledge to drive the emirate’s socio-economic progress. “ADEC encourages schools to develop and identify the training plans that meet teachers’ individual needs, and we are confident that schools will work continuously & intensively to improve their performance in order to meet the future of education needs & requirements,” added Al-Dhaheri.

The PD strategy aims to establish a training nucleus in schools, where AQIO & curriculum experts have trained subject coordinators & head of faculties during the first trimester in order to enable them document their learning journey as well as share what they’ve learnt with the rest of their co-workers in schools during the PD Week .

Among the topics and training programs that were included, but not limited to, school self-evaluation, school evaluation process, school development plan review, Journey of Discovery, child protection policy, second trimester planning and specialised curriculum courses for each subject.

Training programs have been developed in collaboration with UAE University to train C3 geo-sciences, environment & digital technology teachers. This comes in line with ADEC initiatives aiming to strengthen partnership with local higher education institutions. ADEC is applying an innovative model, which focuses on establishing links between learning outcomes, labor market needs and 21st century teaching and learning skills.

During the PD Week, AQIO, curriculum experts and cluster managers will monitor the implementation of training programs in order to assess the quality of knowledge gained by coordinators, head of faculties aiming to improve teacher skills and competencies.
