The Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) announced the opening of registration for the Talented Students Scholarship Program for the academic year 2017-2018, which runs until the 22nd of April 2016 for Grade 12 Emirati students wishing to continue their university education in a number of leading educational institutions within the UAE and abroad.

Dr. Mohamed Yousif Baniyas, Executive Director at ADEC’s Higher Education Sector, indicated that the Program is offered every year for talented students with a keen interest in providing them with the necessary skills and competencies. “Encouraging students to pursue demanded careers for the nation comes in line with Abu Dhabi’s 2030 mission to establish a knowledge based economy that meets labor market requirements and supports Abu Dhabi’s growth in all fields and sectors.”

The applicant for this program must be an Emirati and must have achieved an average of 85 percent at least in the General Secondary Education Certificate (or equivalent), whereas university undergraduates must obtain a minimum GPA of 3.0, with 30 credit hours in a university/ disciplines.

The program offers scholarships in four majors: Medicine, Health Sciences, Engineering, Sciences, Management and Economics including 17 specialties including Medicine, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering & Nuclear Engineering, in addition to Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology (Teaching Corp), Finance, Statistics and Accounting, Astronomy, Biotechnology and Genetics.

The Program indicates ADEC’s keenness to encourage Emiratis to major in specialized subjects which are needed for Abu Dhabi’s growth and sustainability, and are part of efforts to upgrade the qualifications of Emirati students and harness their capabilities, while driving the socio-economic development of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi forward.

Students who wish to enroll in the program should register within the specified period; even in the case, they are called to join the national service program after high school.

Through this program, students receive a number of advantages and bonuses throughout the study period, which include covering tuition fees, monthly stipend and additional financial incentives for high achievers, in addition to travel arrangements, annual return tickets, housing allowance, textbooks, and health insurance. The program also helps provide job opportunities for students after graduation.

ADEC invited eligible students to apply online for the program through ADEC’s website. Student files will be evaluated and approved electronically through the online scholarship system to save time and effort.
