ADEC senior delegates and school leaders visit London as part of the Education in London 2017 journey
In efforts to introduce best practices to increase overall school performance for public schools in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, a delegation from the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) in addition to school leaders, are taking part in a learning journey held in the United Kingdom, under the theme “Education in London 2017 – Creating a better future by transforming education.”
As per the Abu Dhabi 2030 vision to graduate a competent, well equipped and skilled workforce of youth, both ADEC leadership as well as school leaders from across different public schools, are taking part in a week-long education journey in the UK from 22nd to 28th January 2017. The ADEC delegates were divided into two programs: the ADEC Executive Leadership Team and the ADEC School-based Leadership Team.
Delegates will be given the opportunity to meet with counterparts in their area of interest in addition to attending different forums, exhibitions, meetings and schools in London.
The ADEC Executive Leadership Team includes H.E. Dr. Ali Al Nuaimi, ADEC’s Director General; Eng. Hamad Al Dhaheri, ADEC’s Private Schools and Quality Assurance sectors Executive Director; Dr. Karima Al Mazrouei, ADEC’s P-12 Acting Division Manager and Dr. Masood Badri, Head of Research Office in ADEC.
“Our priority in ADEC are our educators, which is exactly why we have invited school leaders to take part in this trip, in order to provide them with a unique opportunity to gain knowledge on high performing schools and latest technology trends, while expanding their network, all in efforts to achieve the Abu Dhabi Plan,” said Dr. Al Nuaimi.
The ADEC Executive Leadership Team will be attending the “Education World Forum” from January 22nd – 24th 2017, at the Park Plaza Hotel in London, where pivotal topics will be highlighted and discussed, some of which include: introducing an effective education policy development plan for teaching, testing, talent and technology; nurturing teaching talent and how policy and practice can encourage further teaching development; useful data and research gathering and the extent to which assessment encourages or detracts from learning.
National rankings for 15 year old students in science and Global Youth Development Index will also be showcased, thus providing useful data and information for policy makers around the discussion that students excel not due to what they know, but due to what they do with what they know. A break out session will also be delivered about whether urbanization can be used to enhance education and improve opportunity nationally.
In efforts to gain more in-depth information on the most effective use of technology in teaching and learning, the delegates will meet with key partners during the trip, some of which includes a meeting with Anthony Salcito, Vice President, Worldwide Education at Microsoft; and meetings with Apple, Google and Microsoft on separate occasions.
“Our trip to London is of extreme importance, since it helps us witness some of the best practices, related to both a schools overall performance and in the area of technology, with a focus on how schools reached where they are today, despite not starting out that way. It’s a great learning experience for all of us, that will certainly expose us to different teaching and learning methods,” stressed His Excellency.
The same set of delegates in addition to H.E. Mr. Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, ADEC’s School Operations Executive Director, will be invited to visit the Filtch Green Academy, a public school in the UK, as part of the Apple Leadership Summit, where they witnessed the usage of iPads, Mac, and iPod touch to create unique learning experiences for students.
As part of the UK Education System & Technology, the delegates are due to visit the British Council Spring Gardens where they will be briefed on the education and inspection system in the UK. They will also visit the Anson Primary School to witness the type of digital education offered to students at the schools, as well as the Tollgate Primary School & Kingsford Academy, where they will gain in-depth information on how the school is receiving an outstanding performance for its top notch education and technology, despite being located in a socio-economically deprived area.
The ADEC School-based Leadership Teams include school based visits for school leaders, headed by ADEC’s School Operations Executive Director, Mr. Al Dhaheri.
School leaders, on a separate occasion to the first delegation, will visit the Filtch Green Academy, attend the Apple Leadership Summit and the Bett London event, where H.E. Dr. Al Nuaimi, will deliver a keynote speech relevant to this year’s Bett Middle East theme – ‘Igniting Excitement through Innovation in Learning’ which highlighted the importance of re-engaging both teachers and students in education at all levels. They will also take part in the Bett Exhibition and Seminars, and witness the most effective use of technology in different schools in the UK, as well as visit outstanding performing schools that are located in economically deprived areas.
