The Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) earned 3rd place in the open category and 7th place in the Football Category, as well as UAE team winning the 20 top ranks, as part of the WRO India Competition 2016 that took place in India from 25th to 27th November 2016, where 470 teams representing more than 65 countries have competed.

A total number of 16 teams from the UAE, who were qualified in the National Robot Challenge competitions that were held last October, have participated in WRO India Competition.

This year’s WRO took place in India under the theme: “Rap the Scrap – Robots for Reducing, Managing and Recycling Waste” where students are expected to find ways to reduce, manage and recycle waste – and solutions, to not generate waste in the first place, using robots.

Dr. Najla Al-Naqbi, E-learning Program Manager at ADEC’s P-12, said that the WRO, which is considered one of ADEC’s most prominent projects, is a team-based challenge that provides promising school students an opportunity to explore diverse robotic systems, while being exposed to modern science and technology. “This comes in line with ADEC’s plan to promote creative thinking, improve communication/cooperation skills and strengthen the ability to acquire new knowledge highly relevant towards progressive education,” she added.

Dr. Al-Naqbi pointed out that UAE student results in WRO showed improvement year after year, which has been reflected in their outstanding results in the completion. Moreover, it is a great opportunity to meet and compete with their peers at a global level. “ADEC is keen to encourage students to participate in all competitions that help them enhance their skills,” added Al-Naqbi.

A delegation from the UAE Embassy received the students participating in the WRO, where they valued their outstanding participation and remarkable success.
